Happy New Year: A Wrong Turn?

About pic2

About five years ago, I decided that animal wellness was my true passion. I didn’t hate what I did for a living but it wasn’t feeding my soul in any way – in fact, I think it started to suck the life out of me. Those golden handcuffs were the worst.

Then I decided to pursue a Certified Vet Tech (CVT) degree but I had a feeling working in a clinic wasn’t the right path. I was hoping I would figure out what the RIGHT path looked like over the course of the two year program.

Fast forward to about a year or two ago after graduating (and with very good grades which surprised me and most of the people around me) – I decided writing about animal wellness was the right path and using my new knowledge base would allow me to dive deeper and write stories I wasn’t equipped to write previously.

I’m back working in PR but I’m writing about animal wellness and using my knowledge to educate other pet parents and animal lovers. As I care for my three hounds, I’m constantly pulling from that vast knowledge base and I’m not sure what the future holds…but I’m closer! Writing about health related issues feels right and a lightbulb goes off when I’m researching topics from dog related emergencies to terrible conditions like bloat and how pet parents should deal with these situations.

SO was getting my CVT degree a wrong turn? Absolutely not. What sometimes feels like a wrong turn put me on the right path after all.

Good for you! I totally know how you feel. I left my corporate job because it wasn’t for me – I was miserable. Now that I write about animals for a living, I’m actually happy. Sometimes it takes time to find the right path, but I’m so glad you found what makes you happy!
