Latest studies about dog and man

The latest studies talk about the bond between man and dog — the strength of eye contact. Simple eye contact raises oxytocin levels. They did studies about gazing into your dog’s eyes for 30 minutes and the resulting impact that can have on the bond between man and dog. I love this study. I play the “look at me” game all the time with my reactive dog, Sherman. It has worked like a charm when he’s reacting to other dogs on leash. On the flip side – a hard stare isn’t appropriate so use your best judgement! And sometimes my dogs won’t look into my eyes at all and we HAVE to play the “look at me” game with a clicker so I can get their attention and focus on me. This isn’t always an easy exercise with my almost constantly distracted hounds. Their nose rules in most environments. I would love to hear from others about their experiences with eye contact. I make fun of my husband as he and our young doxie, Walter constantly gaze into each other’s eyes and are so in love. It’s a bro-mance. Is it the eye contact? Is that why he wakes up to 100 kisses every morning?
