Monkey On Your Back? Time Saving Tips

Brui with Raptor

Not having enough time to get everything done has become a monkey on my back. Or in Bruiser’s case above, his monkey is a small, annoying dinosaur. So I’m carrying this burden this first week into the New Year. I’ve researched some time management tips that I wanted to share as I’m looking for ways to work smarter so I can spend MORE time my dogs.

A writer at Forbes provided some great tips for work-life balance and I refer to this article often so wanted to share some highlights.

Three ways to work smarter so you can get outdoors with your dog:

  • Turn email off when you need to get something done: Take this 15-20 minutes with email off and engage your dog in some type of activity. This could be be simple – throw the ball down the stairs and have them bring it back to you a few times. Tell them how much they rock and you’re taking a small break without distractions.
  • What, to you, constitutes time well spent? Write a list of five things. Knowing you all, all five will include dog related activities. Have you done at least one of these things this week? Nosework is an activity I do with two of our hounds every Sunday a.m. and I don’t miss it.
  • Anything that marks the end of one year or the start of a new year is a good time to look back at how you’ve spent your time in the year just gone. This may sound simple but since we’re barely into January, what does this look like for you? This year I want to spend more time bring present with my hounds and not looking at my phone on walks or at the park. The rule in our house is dog walks = zero technology. What about you?
