Bruiser’s 12th birthday celebration was this past weekend on the coast. Out of our three beautiful dogs, I know Bruisy the best. He’s twelve years young and the longest relationship I’ve ever had with a four legged friend. We lost our last dog to Lymphoma and she was eleven. Bruiser is showing his age and I’ve noticed that this year he’s slowed down a lot. He visited his Acupuncturist earlier today and later this month he has his wellness exam. He struggles with Inter-digital Cysts and Irritable Bowel Disease. His beach walk this past weekend was shorter than normal which is fine with us and his two brothers. He’s healthy and happy.

Bruiser is my introduction to the doxie breed and he will be remembered for that by my entire family. Walter, his three year old brother, is also a doxie. Once you live with this breed you never go back. They are hilarious and loyal. They are loud and need to be heard. I might argue they all need their own special chair…or perhaps that’s just Bruiser.

Bruiser and I have grown *older* together. Yet, I can remember when we adopted him from Indigo Rescue, a local Portland rescue, over ten years ago. Since adopting him, I’m now on their board of directors and much of my life is devoted to the wellness of dogs. Thank you Bruiser for teaching me so much about what’s important in life. I cannot imagine my life without you in it.
