The Ghost “Dog” Network: A Halloween Post

Beach Day!

I believe in ghosts.

Sometimes I think the dogs I’ve lived with over the years that are no longer with us, follow me on dog walks. My old doxie, Bruiser, constantly looks behind him as he makes his way around the block. Part of me wants to think his buddy, Sandola, watches us from behind. She passed away almost five years ago.

Two nights ago, I looked up from the kitchen at the stairs and thought I saw another dog family member at the top of the stairs, Jack, A Jack Russell Terrier mix we rescued years ago that passed away from kidney failure way too young.

My girlfriend lost her dog two weeks ago to Lymphoma and when I saw her last night she said her Pit Bull mix, was still around and she was certain of it.

Is there a ghost network of the dogs we’ve all lived with watching over us?

Is it when we need them the most they show up?

Or is it because after however many years, the daily routine of living with another creature sticks with you and after a dog passes, it cannot be shaken… and we’re all haunted by the GIANT void left behind. And it’s not just us but other animals in the house are impacted equally.

Am I writing this because Halloween is around the corner and I carved pumpkins recently? Perhaps? Perhaps not.

Who’s in your ghost network?
